I purchased and read this book on my own. While I’m not a professional critic, here is my honest review.
I recently finished reading When the Jessamine Grows, and I can’t recommend it enough.
It was one of those rare books that I genuinely looked forward to picking back up every chance I got. I found myself reaching for it on my dresser when I woke up in the middle of the night!
It’s a truly captivating read that stays with you.
Here is the original and professional summary of the book:
***
Set in rural North Carolina during the Civil War, When the Jessamine Grows follows Joetta McBride, a woman determined to keep her family neutral in a conflict she doesn’t believe in. While her community and even her own father-in-law push for the Confederate cause, Joetta struggles to maintain her convictions. When her 15-year-old son runs away to join the army and her husband leaves to find him, Joetta is left to defend their farm alone, facing both the physical hardships of war and the growing hostility of her neighbors.
